How to Gain Self Confidence
1. Change your body
Imagine what a “confident” body looks like, and change your body to fit that imagery. Chances are, you’ll pull your shoulders back and chin up, and you’ll look and feel more powerful. Your body posture sends signals to your brain to tell it how to feel. Check out this TED Talk by Amy Cuddy called “Your Body Language Shapes Who You Are.” I also made a video myself about doing “happy power poses” to make you feel good.
2. Change your focus
Focus on the positive: your strengths, gifts, qualities that you love about yourself. People who are insecure are focusing too much on what they don’t like about themselves—their negative qualities. Once you focus on the positive more than the negative, you will notice a shift in your confidence.
To put this into practice, make a list of the qualities you love about yourself. If you’d like, you can also ask your closest friends & family what they think your best qualities are. Review that list regularly, at least once a week!
3. Change your self talk
What you say to yourself throughout the day really reflects and affects your self confidence. Start paying attention to your thoughts and self talk. Is it predominantly positive or negative?
Make sure that you’re showering yourself with positive self talk and self love, because you deserve it! Speak to yourself with love, respect, and encouragement.
To put this into practice, write out a couple empowering affirmations to say to yourself every morning and every night. Repeat daily until the affirmations sink into your psyche and transform your inner confidence.
